Key takeaways
- Amazon starts more US product searches than Google, so jewellery SEO means owning specific, visual and local queries, not "gold earrings".
- Google Lens handles nearly 20 billion visual searches a month and 20% are shopping-related. Your product photos are now ranking assets.
- Clean Merchant Center feeds and Product and ProductGroup markup get you into Shopping, AI Mode and ChatGPT.
- BIS hallmarking in India and the FTC Jewelry Guides in the US limit what your pages can claim.
- Measure organic revenue per collection, not traffic.
A woman in Pune photographs a friend's temple-design jhumkas at a wedding, opens Google Lens and gets a row of near-identical pairs. Three are on Amazon, one is on Myntra and one is on a small Jaipur brand's own site. The brand sells the exact pair she wanted. It got the click because its photo was clean, its product title said "gold-plated silver temple jhumka" and its price matched the feed.
That's jewellery SEO now. The sale is often decided by a photo, a feed attribute or an AI shopping answer before anyone types your brand name.
Short answer: To do SEO for a jewellery or fashion brand, build collection pages around specific styles, materials and occasions, mark up every product with Product and ProductGroup schema, keep a clean Google Merchant Center feed, optimise photos for visual search, earn press and wedding-blog links, and track organic revenue by collection.
Why does SEO work differently for jewellery and fashion brands?
You're competing with your own stockists. The same kurta set might sit on your site, Myntra, Ajio and Amazon, and the marketplaces have far more authority. Jungle Scout's Q1 2024 survey found more US shoppers start product searches on Amazon than on any search engine.

Buying behaviour also splits in two. A ₹900 cotton top is an impulse buy decided on photos, price and returns. A ₹2 lakh bridal set or a $4,000 engagement ring is researched for weeks and often finished in a showroom.
Then there's regulation. In India, hallmarking with a six-digit HUID is mandatory for gold jewellery in notified districts, and the sixth phase in March 2026 took coverage to 380 districts. In the US, the FTC Jewelry Guides say a lab-grown stone needs a qualifier such as "laboratory-grown" or "laboratory-created" next to the word "diamond", as National Jeweler's summary of the 2018 revision explains. That reaches your titles, schema and feeds.
What jewellery and fashion SEO trends matter heading into 2027?
Visual search is mainstream
Google said in October 2024 that Lens gets nearly 20 billion visual searches every month, and 20% of them are shopping-related. For a category bought on looks, that's a second search engine.

- Shopping-related: 20% (about 4 billion)
- Other Lens searches: 80%

AI Mode and virtual try-on
In May 2025, Google said its Shopping Graph holds more than 50 billion product listings, with over 2 billion refreshed every hour, and launched "try on", which shows US shoppers shirts, pants, skirts and dresses on a photo of themselves. Complete feeds get pulled into these experiences; thin ones don't.
Zero-click answers for style questions
Pew Research tracked 900 US adults' browsing in March 2025. When an AI summary appeared, people clicked regular results far less.

"What to wear to a mehendi" will keep losing clicks. Write those pieces only if they link straight into shoppable collections.
Short video and reviews with photos
Customer photos and try-on clips lift conversion and prove the product is real. Voice search, honestly, barely matters for fashion.
Which keywords should a jewellery or clothing brand target?
Forget "jewellery online" and "women's clothing". Marketplaces own them. The winnable money sits in style + material ("oxidised silver choker"), occasion ("haldi outfit for bride's sister"), fit or size ("petite wide-leg trousers UK") and store + city ("bridal jewellery showroom in Jaipur"). Each maps neatly to a collection page.
| Keyword / query type | Search intent | Page to build | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| "jewellery shop near me" / "gold jewellery showroom in {city}" | Transactional, local | Store page + Google Business Profile | High |
| "lightweight gold necklace designs" | Commercial, visual | Collection page with weight filter and clear photos | High |
| "lab grown diamond engagement rings" | Commercial investigation | Collection page + lab-grown vs natural guide | High |
| "925 sterling silver jhumka" | Transactional | Subcategory page with material in title and schema | High |
| "bridal lehenga shop in Delhi" / "Chandni Chowk bridal lehenga" | Commercial, local | Bridal store page with appointment booking | High |
| "linen shirts for men" / "petite wide-leg trousers" | Commercial | Collection page with fit guide | High |
| "how to check hallmark on gold" / "HUID check" | Informational, trust | Guide linked to your hallmarking policy page | Medium |
| "sangeet outfit ideas" / "wedding guest dress UK" | Informational, visual | Shoppable lookbook article | Medium |
| "{brand} reviews" / "is {brand} real gold" | Navigational, validation | Reviews, certification and returns page | Low |
How should a fashion ecommerce site be structured for SEO?
In fashion, collections do the heavy lifting. Products sell out and vanish each season; a collection like /jewellery/silver/jhumkas/ can rank for years.
Faceted navigation is where most clothing brand SEO goes wrong. Filters for colour, size, price and fabric can generate thousands of URLs. Index a filtered page only when people search for it ("black kurta sets" yes, "black kurta sets size M under ₹2,000" no), give it a unique title and intro, and canonicalise or noindex the rest. Our technical SEO audit checklist shows how to spot crawl waste.
Which schema types should jewellery and clothing sites use?
Every product page needs Product with an Offer (price, priceCurrency, availability), plus brand, gtin where you have one, and material. For sizes or colours, Google supports ProductGroup markup with hasVariant, productGroupID and variesBy (size, color, material and pattern are all allowed values). Add hasMerchantReturnPolicy and shippingDetails, or set them once in Search Console under Settings > Shopping > Shipping and returns. Showrooms get JewelryStore or ClothingStore (LocalBusiness subtypes), and the site gets Organization with sameAs links.
Skip FAQ markup as a rich-result tactic. Google stopped showing FAQ rich results in May 2026.
For images, follow Google's image SEO guidance: descriptive file names ("rose-gold-lab-grown-solitaire.jpg", not "IMG_4471.jpg") and specific alt text. On Shopify, our Shopify team can fix theme-level variant issues.
Merchant Center, marketplaces and Google Business Profile: where do fashion buyers find you?
Treat your product feed as an SEO asset
Free listings in Google Merchant Center put your products in the Shopping tab, Lens and AI Mode without ad spend. Apparel needs more than the basics: Google says age_group is required for all Apparel & Accessories products in free listings, alongside attributes like color, size and gender. Handmade pieces without a GTIN should set identifier_exists to "no", never an invented code.
Jewellers have a quirk nobody warns them about. If prices track the daily gold rate, feed and page prices drift apart within hours, and Merchant Center disapproves mismatches. Schedule feed updates at least daily, or push changes through the Merchant API.
Say a Jaipur silver jewellery brand sells ₹60 lakh a year, 70% through marketplaces that take around a quarter of each sale in fees and ads. That's about ₹10.5 lakh a year in commissions. Shift 15% of those orders to the brand's own site and ₹6.3 lakh of revenue moves in-house, saving around ₹1.6 lakh in fees and keeping each customer's email.
Don't quit marketplaces. Use Amazon, Myntra, Nykaa Fashion or Etsy for reach, but write different copy for your own site, keep some styles exclusive, and use packaging inserts to bring repeat buyers direct.
Google Business Profile for jewellers and boutiques
For showrooms, Google Business Profile matters most. Pick the most precise primary category: "Jewelry store", "Jeweler", "Goldsmith", "Diamond dealer", "Bridal shop", "Saree shop", "Boutique" or "Women's clothing store". Add secondaries such as "Jewelry repair service" only if you offer them. Upload real interior photos, list bestsellers as products, and ask bridal customers for reviews that mention the piece and who helped them. In busy markets like Karol Bagh in Delhi, the map-pack jewellers we see usually carry hundreds of recent reviews. Our local SEO checklist covers the rest.
What content helps a D2C fashion brand rank?
Build clusters around buying decisions. A "bridal jewellery" cluster might hold a guide to choosing a set by neckline, a HUID explainer, a 22K vs 18K comparison and real bride stories, all linking to the bridal collection.
E-E-A-T in jewellery is about trust in the material. Google's helpful content guidance asks who made the content and whether it shows first-hand experience, so name your gemologist or master karigar, show certification (BIS, IGI or GIA reports), and explain making charges plainly. For clothing, real fit notes ("model is 5'4", wearing S; runs small through the shoulders") beat any amount of brand storytelling. See our E-E-A-T guide.
How do jewellery and fashion brands earn links and press?
Fashion has a built-in PR machine most brands ignore for SEO. WedMeGood, The Knot and Brides feature real weddings and credit the jeweller or designer.
Original data works too: a jeweller's annual "most-requested engagement ring styles" from anonymised enquiries, or a UK label's fabric durability test. Stockist pages and collaborations with craft clusters such as Banarasi weavers add relevant links.
Buying "fashion blog" guest posts in bulk. They sit on sites with no readers. One credible wedding feature is worth more. Our link building services focus on editorial placements.
How do you get products recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI Mode?
AI shopping runs on product data. In March 2026 OpenAI said it was focusing ChatGPT on product discovery: merchants share feeds through the Agentic Commerce Protocol, Shopify product data already flows in via Shopify Catalog, and buyers can check out on the merchant's own site. OpenAI's 2025 announcement said product results are organic and unsponsored, ranked on relevance.
Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode have no special requirements beyond normal indexing and snippet eligibility. The fashion brands we see cited tend to do this:
- Complete product data everywhereMaterial, purity, stone, fit and size range, matching across site, feed and marketplaces.
- Answer buyer questions on the page"Is this hypoallergenic?" or "Is there an IGI certificate?" in plain text, not inside images.
- Earn mentions in roundups"Best lab-grown diamond brands" answers usually cite editorial lists and Reddit, not brand pages.
- Test prompts monthlyRun 20 shopper-style prompts in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Mode and log who's named.

Which KPIs should fashion and jewellery SEO track?
| KPI | Where to measure | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Organic revenue by collection | GA4, landing page report filtered to organic | Shows which categories SEO actually sells |
| Non-branded clicks to collections | Search Console, Performance > Search results | Growth beyond people who already know you |
| Merchant listing and product snippet clicks | Search Console search appearance filter; Merchant Center performance | Free Shopping and Lens visibility |
| Showroom appointments, calls and direction requests | Booking tool + Google Business Profile performance | Captures high-ticket sales that close offline |
| Share of orders via own site vs marketplaces | Order management system | The margin story your finance team cares about |
Jewellers should add "how did you find us?" to the showroom intake form. Analytics never sees bridal sales that close in person.
What are the most common jewellery and fashion SEO mistakes?
Copying the supplier's description is the one we see most. If 40 sites share the same 80 words for a pair of studs, Google picks the marketplace. Close behind is deleting sold-out pages: a one-of-a-kind ring may have earned links, so keep it live with "see similar" links or 301 it to the nearest collection.
Seasonal URLs like /diwali-sale-2025/ throw away authority yearly; keep an evergreen /diwali-collection/ instead. Unqualified "diamond" on lab-grown stones or "gold" on plated pieces invites regulatory trouble and returns. And JavaScript-only lookbooks often leave Google nothing to index; check them with Search Console's URL Inspection tool.
